I know I’ve been so quite here & on Facebook recently – most of my friends and followers know I’ve been really exploring my passion for all things birth. Education, support & photography has completely filed me with joy and excitement. So, I won’t be posting here anymore (that’s actually made me really sad as I type this…..)  I’ve loved being Simply B Photography, really and truly but I’ve grown and changed into something more.

Knowing I can help give my clients the information and support to have a better birth experience has changed me. Birth photography led me there.

As women, our birth stories shape our lives, from the moment we have a positive pregnancy test to the time we hold our babies, our lives have changed. Unfortunately for some that story is hard, hard to remember or hard to talk about. For others it will be joyous, empowering and defining. But one thing is for sure, that moment it will stay with us and become our story.

I want for you to have the best story, to shout from the rooftops that you had a wonderful experience, you felt loved, safe and supported. You felt strong and vulnerable at the same time, powerful and powerless as your baby & body work together to bring forth new life, love and an amazing future with this new little person.

If you are interested to follow along, find me here Kindred Birth and hopefully I can help you have your best birth!

This little girl waited for no one – not even her Daddy!

Nat was having Braxton Hicks on and off for a couple of days, nothing regular, nothing strong, just nothing. Then during the Thursday evening things changed, they become a little more intense but manageable. Nat let me know how she was feeling and I made sure my gear was ready & clothes were on the end of my bed. At about 3:15am my phone started to ring and I jumped up and I knew it was go time. What I didn’t expect was …….. “Bron, I’ve had the baby, it was quick, really quick, she was born in the ambulance on the way to hospital!”

I got dressed and grabbed my bag and arrived at Nambour General’s Birth Suite at about 3:40am (I would have been quicker except I got into the wrong lift – my eyes were still adjusting to the lights!!) Nat was the talk of the birth suite midwives! The VBAC mummy (vaginal birth after caesearean) who gave birth in an ambulance! As I walked into the dark room, here was Nat still having skin-to-skin cuddles with the yet to be named baby girl. The story began of how the birth unfolded and how poor Matt missed his little girl’s entrance as he was driving in their car following the ambulance.

Thankfully I was able to capture Daddy’s first cuddles, Grandma’s first cuddles, weighing and measuring and all her tiny details. I also captured the phone call to tell her big brothers they had a sister!! This beautiful family will always have a pretty amazing story to tell.

Welcome baby Josie!

Some words from Nat:

Josie was in quite the rush to meet us, Birth Photos (documenting labour & birth through photography) is something I really wanted but with her quick arrival this wasn’t possible, however our beautiful photographer Bronwyn Arnold-Briggs from Simply B Photography came up to the hospital within 30mins of my arrival and spent a few hours documenting our first hours together.
Can’t thank her enough for capturing this precious time.

Thanks so much for capturing these beautiful moments, while the birth was nothing like i ‘planned’ i wouldn’t have it any other way well apart from the obvious of Matt being there.

Oh i wondered who i was on the phone too so thanks for adding that :)ReplyCancel

Fresh Baby-1-2

Just as my birth photography led me to HypnoBirthing and the amazing community of birth workers here on the Sunshine Coast, I have also been studying to be a certified Birth Doula. A do-wah? A doula is an experienced birth attendant who’s sole focus is the emotional and physical support of the birthing mother and her partner.

A doula provides parents with information during pregnancy to help them make decisions that they are comfortable with for their baby’s birth. Help them prepare their birth plan, answer questions that come up during their antenatal appointments and help them prepare for labour with comfort measures (physical and emotional) support and encouragement.  A doula stays with the couple for their labour, birth and early hours after birth. A doula doesn’t leave when her shift is over, she offers continuous support.

Doula’s support partners too! Most partners feel unprepared for the uncertainty of labour and birth, they need support and encouragement too. They don’t know what is normal for a woman to experience during labour and sometimes having the support of a doula helps ‘take the pressure off’ for Dad’s. They don’t feel they have to know exactly what to do all the time. A doula will make sure partners keep eating and drinking, they have good posture to continue their important work loving and caring for their partner, let them go to the bathroom without having to leave their partner alone. We work together to ensure Mum is loved and nurtured during her labour.

I support families having home births and hospital births, mainly here on the Sunshine Coast at Sunshine Coast Private Hospital and Nambour General Hospital but I certainly can travel to support families at Caboolture & Gympie Hospitals. Please enquire if you are unsure. You can contact me here or for more information see my other website – Kindred Birth

I was so excited when Nat got in touch to photograph her birth! This was her third precious baby and after two boys she was expecting a GIRL!! As part of her birth photography package, we decided to do a milk bath maternity session (with a huge shout out to my gorgeous friend Robyn for letting us use her beautiful light filled bathroom!!) Nat looked like a complete goddess in her milk bath but we captured a few relaxed photos before she hoped in.

Matt and i Just loved all of these…
I felt really nervous as i don’t really like being in front of the lens. The end results are better than i could have ever imagined and i agree i look amazing!!ReplyCancel

My poor website has suffered from some serious neglect over the past few months, not because nothing has been happening, quite the opposite actually. I have had my head in the books and been doing some serious study! I am so excited to announce I am one of the newest HypnoBirthing Practitioners from a recent training course. I studied the Mongan Method of HypynoBirthing – founded by Marie Mongan 25 years ago and taught  in countries all around the world! In fact on November 26th Carrie from Joymamma Yoga & HypnoBirthing and I are hosting a 25th Birthday Celebration at Cotton Tree to honor & celebrate this wonderful program.

What is HypnoBirthing?

Parents-to-be learn techniques to encourage deep relaxation which reduces tension and anxiety and helps promote the release of natural birthing hormones and endorphins. These hormones in conjunction with a relaxed body and positive mindset help us to have a calm, confident and positive birth. By understanding how your birthing body and mind works, you will gain confidence in your ability to birth your baby. Partners learn ways to comfort, encourage and support their birthing partner giving them the confidence they need in the lead up to birth. HypnoBirthing prepares couples for birth no matter what turn their birthing takes, giving parents the tools to ask questions and help make decisions about the kind of care they desire for their birth.

Classes are held in small groups or private sessions over 5 weekly 2.5 hr classes. This allows time to practise your newly learnt skills and build upon the week before. Included in the face to face classes is a textbook, reference materials & a CD of relaxation & affirmation tracks.

HypnoBirthing is not just for parents choosing to birth at home but for families planning to birth at Sunshine Coast Private Hospital and Nambour General Hospital. Most hospital midwives have experienced families using HypnoBirthing techniques for birth.

For information about the program or for class dates, please use the contact form and I’ll be in touch.
